Industry 4.0 Teacher Academy

Industry 4.0, also known as the 4th Industrial Revolution, is transforming industries across Southwestern Pennsylvania and beyond, with manufacturing experiencing significant advancements due to emerging technologies. To bring educators into this evolving conversation, the Industry 4.0 Teacher Academy is being launched as a four-day pilot program. This Academy will focus on three key technologies shaping the future of manufacturing: additive manufacturing (3D printing), robotics/automation, and the Internet of Things (IoT).

The Academy will provide participants with an inside look at how these technologies are applied in industry, offer classroom resources, and deliver training on inquiry-based educational practices. Additionally, participants will explore the four key design principles of Industry 4.0—interconnection, information transparency, technical assistance, and decentralized decision-making—and discuss how they apply both in industry and in the classroom.

Key Benefits for Teachers:
  • $300 stipend for attending the Academy
  • Classroom resources and materials for implementing Industry 4.0 concepts
  • Act 48 credits for professional development
  • Training facilitated by ASSET STEM Education
  • Opportunities to tour local manufacturing companies and engage in panel discussions with industry experts
  • Guidance on how to leverage other grant-funded programs to bring Industry 4.0 into the classroom
  • Continental breakfast and lunch provided each day

Teachers are encouraged to attend with a colleague, whether from a related subject area, a different grade level, or a cross-curricular discipline.

Academy Focus Areas:
  • Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing)
  • Robotics and Automation
  • Internet of Things (IoT)

The Industry 4.0 Teacher Academy is made possible through partnerships with regional organizations and manufacturing companies:
